Strike by Chile customs workers ends after five days
The strike by customs workers at Chile’s ports has come to an end.
Seaports along the nation’s lengthy Pacific coast are returning to normal operations following the workers’ union the National Association of Customs Officers of Chile (ANFACH) announcing the end of the stoppage after five days.
Workers, numbering around 1,900, had taken action over staffing issues, working hours and retirement benefits, claiming that the government had failed to honour promises on all those issues.
This strike followed the pattern of similar recent ones in being shortlived.
