Boskalis and DEME win major South American dredging contract
Royal Boskalis Westminster and DEMA have landed a 5-year contract by Comision Administradora del Rio de la Plata (CARP) for the capital and maintenance dredging of the Martín García channel.
The contract is worth around €110m ($130.1m) for the 50/50 joint venture, and the capital dredging work will be performed in 2018. Approximately 6 million cubic metres of sand and silt will be removed with two trailing suction hopper dredgers, while around 500,000 cubic metres of clay and rock will be removed with a large backhoe.
The subsequent maintenance contract will see the removal of about 5 million cubic metres of sand and silt annually over a period of four years.
The Martín García channel is located between Uruguay and Argentina and is the main access channel to Uruguay’s second largest port, Nueva Palmira, as well as to the Rio Uruguay.
