Maersk Tankers has offloaded its 15-year-old Japanese built Maersk Privilege in an off market deal to Singaporean outfit Winson Oil. Clarkson Research reports a price of $12.5m for the 105,483 dwt ship.
“On the face of it this looks to be a firm price, although it is worth noting that the ship is fully coated and trading clean products, and the buyers required the ship for an imminent project which few ships on the market were suitable for,” Clarkson noted in its most recent weekly report.
Winson Oil has been steadily building up its fleet with vintage tankers over the past two years. The Maersk Privilege is its second ship acquisition this year, following on from the purchase last month of another aframax, the Eagle Stealth, which cost $11.5m from Stealth Maritime.
Maersk Tankers was sold in September last year to APMH Invest, a subsidiary of A.P. Moller Holding, the family investment vehicle of the Mollers, for $1.17bn in an all-cash transaction.
