Product tanker Sunny Orion caught fire near South Korea’s Tongyeong Island yesterday morning.
The incident occurred when the vessel was carrying 4,700 tons of highly flammable mix-xylene to Ulsan from Hong Kong.
The fire started in one of the empty tanks, and the crew managed to put it our in about 20 minutes. No casualities and injuries were reported in the incident.
The 12,200 dwt vessel is operated by Japanese owner Asashi Marine.
The tanker is now at anchor at Busan Port and will undergo an investigation into the cause of the incident.
