Crew member dies after explosion on Indian chemical tanker
An explosion onboard Indian chemical tanker Nu Shi Nalini has killed one of the ship’s crew.
The vessel was anchored off Cochin Port yesterday undergoing repairs when the explosion occurred, resulting in severe burns to the crew member who died after being airlifted to hospital.
The 2012-built Nu Shi Nalini is owned by India’s Arya Ship Charterers and managed by Elektrans Shipping.
Elektrans said the situation on board the vessel is under control and the other crew members are safe on board.
“We are deeply saddened on the unfortunate demise of our crew member and are in close contact with his family,” Elektrans said in a statement.
