Chinese petrochemical firm found to have lied following huge tanker leak
Seven people have been arrested for a chemical leak from a tanker earlier this month in the city of Quanzhou in eastern Fujian province.
Six people from Fujian Donggang Petrochemical Industry, which caused the leak when loading C9 aromatic solvent into a tanker at a local port on November 4, as well as four crew members on the vessel are under investigation. Seven of them have been arrested.
In total 69 tons of the chemical was leaked when a pipe broke, 10 times more than Donggang Petrochemical initially reported. The clean-up continues this week and no fish have been allowed to be sold in the Quanzhou area since the accident.
The company was found to have forged evidence to cover its tracks in the wake of the accident.
