Ocean Affinity, the Houston-based company which earlier this year failed to track the missing MH370 airplane, has won a contract from another Asian government.
The subsea specialists have been employed by the South Korean government to find the Stellar Daisy, a very large ore carrier (VLOC) belonging to Polaris Shipping, which sank in March last year in the South Atlantic with the loss of 22 lives.
Ocean Affinity is being paid $4.33m to conduct a 50-day search starting in January for the ship with a view to getting the VLOC’s voyage data recorder.
Should be a much more straightforward task; the location of the sinking is approximately known and a VLOC is a nice big sonar target.
I’m sure we are all very pleased that the Korean Government are doing this; the days when ships “just sank” are over. The VDR is needed.
