Abandoned Aroania Maritime bulker sold at auction

China’s Ningbo Maritime Court has sold the 1997-built handymax bulker Avlemon via an online auction today.

The vessel had been detained by the court at the request of PaxOcean Zhoushan after Greek owner Aroania Maritime failed to pay ship repair fees from 2016. The owner had since abandoned the vessel along with its crew at the yard.

The 42,600 dwt vessel has been sold to undisclosed buyer for a price of RMB22.07m ( $3.22m), less than the $5.1m fair market value according to MSI.
