Aframax prices slide

Clarksons Research has news of the swift downward pressure on aframax tanker prices. The eight-year-old  TH Sonata was sold last week by Japan’s Nissen Kaiun for a price in the region of $25m to $26m to Greece’s New Shipping. The ship had received a total of four offers.

“The eventual sale price highlights the continued slide in values in the Aframax sector,” Clarksons Research noted.

To put the sale into context, in October last year the 2009-built TH Sound and TH Serenade were sold for around $43m each.

“With new benchmarks being set in the Aframax space, it will be interesting to see at what level potential buyers’ interest can be sparked, especially when considering the high number of sales candidates still available in the market,” Clarksons Research reported.
