Angad Banga becomes chair of the Asian Shipowners’ Association

Angad Banga, chief operating officer at the Caravel Group, has added the chairmanship of the Asian Shipowners’ Association (ASA) to go alongside his election last week as chair of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA). 

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead ASA during this transformative period in the maritime sector. The challenges we face are significant, but so are the opportunities. Together, with the collective strength of our members, we will chart a course towards sustainable growth, technological advancement, and enhanced collaboration with in the Asian and the global shipping community,” Banga said of his ASA appointment. 

Asian shipowners are a dominant force in world shipping, accounting for approximately one in two ships trading today.

Starting out with the Informa Group in 2000 in Hong Kong, Sam Chambers became editor of Maritime Asia magazine as well as East Asia Editor for the world’s oldest newspaper, Lloyd’s List. In 2005 he pursued a freelance career and wrote for a variety of titles including taking on the role of Asia Editor at Seatrade magazine and China correspondent for Supply Chain Asia.
