Arcadia Shipmanagement orders first newbuilds since 2015

Greece’s Arcadia Shipmanagement has been named as the owner behind a recent order for a pair of suezmax tankers in South Korea, marking its first newbuilds for around eight years.

Shipbuilder HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering revealed the order in an exchange announcement last week by an unnamed Liberia shipping company.

According to brokers, the Athens-based tanker outfit with six suezmaxes and four aframaxes in its fleet is paying $85.3m per ship.

Arcadia’s order for the two 158,000 dwt crude carriers is the first since March 2015, when the company ordered the 158,900 dwt Aegean Vision (pictured) at Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered in 2017.

The latest duo will be built at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and delivered by October 2026.

“The deal continues the record-breaking year for the size segment, which has seen the highest number of orders placed in a year since 2015,” shipbroker Allied noted in its report.
