Barge rams bridge in Guangzhou

A Chinese container barge rammed into a bridge over the Pearl River in the city of Guangzhou early this morning, sending vehicles into the water below with a section of the bridge falling into the river. The number of casualties remains unknown.

The vessel was travelling from Foshan’s Nanhai district towards Nansha in Guangzhou when it hit the bridge and became lodged beneath it. The ship’s master was arrested.

The Lixinsha Bridge connects Guangzhou to other Greater Bay Area (GBA) cities like Zhongshan and Shenzhen.
