Belships expands fleet with two ultramax newbuilds

Norway’s Belships has picked up two more ultramax bulk carriers under construction in Japan lifting its fleet to 36 and the company’s newbuilding program to six ships.

The 64,000 dwt newbuild pair should deliver in the second half of 2026 and the first half of 2027, the Oslo-listed company said in a filing on Monday.

The units are financed on a similar structure as the quartet acquired earlier this year – through time charter lease agreements, each for a period of seven up to 10 years, with purchase options during the charter.

The Lars Christian Skarsgård-led supramax and ultramax owner said it is not required to make any down payments or obliged to purchase the vessels. Cash breakeven for the vessels upon delivery will be about $14,000 per day on average.
