Boxship partially sinks after collision off China

A Chinese feeder boxsip has been partially sunk after a collision with a sand carrier.

The 922 teu Xin Yuan Long 6 clashed with an unnamed vessel in the mouth of the Yongjiang River in the Beilun district of Ningbo City.

The Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration said the incident took place on Monday at around 10.15 hrs local time.

The accident caused the hull of the 2021-built stricken boxship to tilt due to water ingress, and more than 40 containers fell into the water.

A salvage operation is underway and the ship is said to be in stable condition. All personnel onboard have been safely evacuated. Local media are reporting that the sand carrier had sunk after the accident but this is yet to be confirmed.
