CMA CGM orders four small boxships at Cosco

CMA CGM has ordered four 3,300-teu containerships from Cosco (Zhoushan) Shipyard in China for an undisclosed price.

The four vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2018 between March 31 and August 31, according to a filing today.

According to shipping databases, the French container line has five other small boxships on order at Chinese yards, all for delivery this year.

Two 1,700-teu vessels are under construction at Zhejiang Ouhua and three 2,500-teu ships are being built at Jinhai Heavy Industry in Zhoushan.

CMA CGM’s orderbook is dominated by supersized containerships, with six 14,000-teu and three 20,600-teu vessels scheduled for delivery from Far Eastern yards in 2017 and 2018.
