Costamare ships out elderly supramaxes

Greek owner Costamare has disposed of two older supramax bulkers as part of the company’s fleet renewal move.

The New York-listed firm is offloading the 2006-built Peace, with the 55,709 dwt ship expected to change hands in the fourth quarter of this year. Further transaction details were not revealed, but S&P databases suggest the BWTS-fitted ship is going to Vietnamese buyers for about $11.6m.

Costamare bought the ship from compatriot Olympic Shipping for a reported price of $12.9m in May 2021.

In addition, the Konstantinos Konstantakopoulos-led company is shipping out the 2006-built Pride, picked up as well from Olympic for $12.6m in 2021. The Mitsui Tamano-built 55,705 dwt unit should also exit the fleet in Q4.

Several other S&P transactions have been confirmed, including the addition of two 2011-built capes, Enna and Dorado, as well as the 2013-built ultramax Arya.

Sales of two vintage boxships were also concluded on 49%-owned 1998-built 2,472 teu Monemvasia and fully-owned 2000-built 4,890 teu Oakland.

Costamare, which owns 68 containerships and 45 bulkers, including the supras agreed for sale, logged a third-quarter net profit available to common stockholders of $53.3m of $0.45 per share. In addition to its owned vessels, the company bolstered its dry bulk operating platform during the quarter to 59 ships, with the majority of the fixed fleet on index-linked charter-in agreements.
