D’Amico doubles down on LR1 newbuilds

Italian product tanker owner and operator d’Amico International Shipping (DIS) has bolstered its orderbook at Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding with two additional LR1 tankers.

The Milan-listed firm is paying $56.2m per ship, with deliveries expected in July and December 2027.

DIS currently boasts a fleet of 34 double-hulled product tankers of which 26 are owned.

The order follows a pair of 75,000 dwt LR1s booked at the same yard for 55.4m each earlier this month but with deliveries in September and November of 2027.

Carlos Balestra di Mottola, the newly appointed CEO of DIS, said he was pleased with the company strengthening its footprint in the LR1 segment and bringing its total fleet to 10 modern vessels.

Balestra di Mottola emphasized that “the LR1 sector stands to benefit from a low orderbook, combined with the ongoing secular shift of world refining capacity away from certain key consuming regions. This trend will further bolster ton-mile demand.”
