D’Amico International Shipping finance chief Balestra di Mottola promoted to CEO

Italian product tanker owner and operator d’Amico International Shipping (DIS) has appointed Antonio Carlos Balestra di Mottola as its new chief executive officer.

Balestra di Mottola, who has been the company’s chief financial officer since May 2016, will take the top job from Paolo d’Amico, who will continue as chairman. He joined the d’Amico Group in 2003, where he held several roles, including business development manager and financial controller.

Balestra di Mottola has also been appointed as chief risk officer. His CFO role will be filled by Federico Rosen, who joined d’Amico in 2003 and steps up from the role of group head of planning and control.

Commenting on the new appointments, DIS chairman d’Amico, who steps down from the CEO role after more than five years, said: “The appointment of Carlos as CEO of DIS and Federico as CFO are the best opportunity through which the company confirms its commitment to achieving the most effective succession plan on the top roles of the structure thanks to its own managers.”

“For Carlos and Federico, this occasion represents the culmination, so far, of an excellent journey and at the same time the beginning of a new and demanding professional challenge in which we are certain they will be successful.”

Milan-listed DIS currently lists 34 double-hulled product tankers in its fleet. The company recently ordered a pair of 75,000 dwt LR1s at Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding for delivery in 2027.
