Densay books ultramax bulk carrier sextet at Chinese shipyards

Dubai-based Turkish owner and operator Densay Shipping is expanding its fleet with a series of ultramax bulk carrier orders in China.

The Tayfun Gunerhan-led outfit has booked a pair each at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing), Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering and New Dayang Shipbuilding for delivery in 2024 and 2025.

The 64.000 dwt units are costing between $32m and $32.5m. All ships will be scrubber-fitted, ammonia-ready, and meet the International Maritime Organization’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 specifications and NOx Tier 3 requirements.

VesselsValue data shows Densay currently owns 39 ships, with three ultramaxes on order at Japan’s Imabari, scheduled to deliver in 2023 and 2024 and one handy bulker to join the fleet in 2025.
