Diamond Offshore inks two new rig deals

Houston-based Diamond Offshore Drilling has received $240m in new contract awards in the UK North Sea.

The New York-listed company said that the second and third priced option wells for the 2016-built harsh environment semi-submersible Ocean GreatWhite were exercised by British major BP in the UK with an estimated duration of 60 days each.

The option wells will be in direct continuation of the existing term. The rig is now expected to remain under contract until at least August 2024.

Also, the 1983-built jack-up semi-submersible Ocean Patriot secured a 35-well plug and abandonment contract with TAQA Bratani Limited in the UK with an estimated duration of three years.

The deal is expected to start in January 2025. The contract includes up to an additional 17 priced option wells with an estimated duration of 12 months.

The company’s current backlog stands at $1.64bn as of Oct 1, 2023, plus the contracts for the Ocean GreatWhite and Ocean Patriot.
