Diana Shipping fixes out bulker to Western Bulk Carriers

Greek bulker owner Diana Shipping has entered into a time charter contract with Western Bulk Carriers for one of its ultramax dry bulk vessels.

The New York-listed company said that it won a charter for the 2015-built, 60,309-dwt DSI Aquila.

The gross charter rate is $12,500 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, for a period until a minimum of November 10, 2024, up to a maximum of January 10, 2025. The new charter period is expected to begin on November 12, 2023.

According to the Semiramis Paliou-led company, the employment of the bulker is anticipated to generate approximately $4.49m of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the time charter.

Upon the completion of the previously announced sale of the 2007-built capsize Boston, Diana Shipping’s fleet will consist of 40 dry bulk vessels – four newcastlemax, nine capesize, five post-panamax, six kamsarmax, seven Panamax, and nine ultramax.

As of today, the combined carrying capacity of the company’s fleet, including the Boston, is approximately 4.7m dwt with a weighted average age of 10.58 years.
