Economou taps Chengxi Shipyard for pair of kamsarmax newbuilds

Greek shipping mogul George Economou has signed for a pair of kamsarmax bulk carrier newbuilds in China.

Economou’s TMS Dry has commissioned Chengxi Shipyard to build and deliver 82,600 dwt units in 2026.

TMS Dry, which according to VesselsValue, currently has eight ultramaxes and four capes on order in China is paying Chengxi between $35m and $36m per ship.

The CSSC-affiliated yard has so far sealed a total of 25 shipbuilding contracts, with kamsarmaxes also attracting several Chinese owners as of late. Earlier this month, Agricore Shipping and Huaxia Financial Leasing booked a pair each.
