Eimskip offloads reefer trio

Icelandic shipping line Eimskip has sealed an agreement to sell three of the company‘s reefer vessels for $12m.

The vessels sold are the Langfoss (built 1991), Stigfoss (1990) and Vidfoss (1990), all of which have been operated by Eimskip in Norway for 20 years. Eimskip says it will be taking one of the vessels back on charter for the next two years.

Eimskip currently operates six reefer vessels, so the sale and charter back will see that become four, reducing the company’s capacity in spot services. Eimskip says operating results in spot services have been unacceptable, and the sale of the vessels is a part of continued streamlining and integration measures in Norway to improve profitability.

The vessels scheduled to be delivered to the unnamed buyer early next year.
