Euronav pounces on VLCC newbuilds

Flush with cash having nailed its best Q2 results ever, Belgian tanker owner Euronav is adding tonnage with a deal for up to two VLCC newbuilds.

The Brussels and New York-listed firm said it has agreed to buy one ship, with an option for another to be lifted in the next two months.

The first unit should deliver in the third quarter of 2026 at a price tag of around $112.2m, while the average VLCC newbuild prices this year stand at about $122.5m, according to brokers. No further details about the deal have been revealed.

Euronav owns a fleet of nearly 70 ships, including 41 VLCCs, with one under construction, and 26 suezmaxes on a fully delivered basis. The company’s VLCCs on the spot market are traded in the Tankers International pool.
