Fire rips through ill-fated car carrier

A spectacular fire broke out on an ill-fated car carrier on Friday. The 2004-built Diamond Highway, hit by a fire four years ago, and then grounded in a typhoon two years ago, was being dismantled for scrap on Friday in Cebu in the Philippines when the blaze broke out, which took firefighters 10 hours to bring under control.

An acetylene torch was dropped, which fell on some paint, causing the blaze, local authorities said.

Despite some workers finding themselves briefly trapped at the top of the vessel, everyone was able to get off the burning ship unharmed.
