Giant cyclone heads towards Australia’s top iron ore port

Ships have been ordered to move away from the world’s largest iron ore exporting port as the biggest cyclone to hit Australia for many years closes in.

Cyclone Ilsa, with winds of up to 275 kmh, is closing in on Port Hedland in Western Australia, with the town issuing a yellow alert, and evacuation centres being put into action.

The cyclone is due to make landfall tonight with meteorologists warning up to 400 mm of rain could fall and there will be extremely high tides.
