Ejner Bonderup has resigned as Norden’s executive vice-president and head of its dry cargo department in order to join Denmark’s XO Shipping as chief executive and partner.
Kent Hedegaard, chairman of XO’s board, confirmed to Splash that Bonderup (pictured) will replace Christian Levin as head of the Hellerup-based company alongside Rico Romme Nielsen, XO’s director.
Levin, who founded the company, will remain on XO’s board and will focus on the company’s strategy.
Hedegaard said that when the opportunity arose for Bonderup to join as XO’s CEO it was natural that Levin would want to step aside.
Norden said it received Bonderup’s resignation “with regret”. Bonderup will continue in his current role for a “limited period of time” but will remain bound by restrictive covenants until December 31, 2017, unless Norden decides to release him early.
Hedegaard said he had no idea when Bonderup will start his new role, but said “XO is happy to wait to see what Norden decides” – although he personally does not expect a decision until after the summer or towards the end of the year.
