Helmerich & Payne lays off employees after contract cancellation

Helmerich & Payne International Drilling has announced the closure of its H&P 100 platform rig in the Gulf of Mexico due to a contract cancellation, with many offshore employees set to lose their jobs.

In a notice the company sent to the local workforce commission, it anticipates the layoff will be up to 50 employees.

It is the second rig closure for the company in the past two months. It closed the operations of H&P 105 in February.
