Himalaya Shipping fixes two more newcastlemaxes

Tor Olav Troim-backed Himalaya Shipping has secured employment for two more of its LNG dual-fuel newcastlemax bulk carriers currently under construction in China.

The New York- and Oslo-listed owner said “a substantial and reputable counterparty” will take the duo on charter for between 22 and 26 months upon delivery from New Times Shipyard between January and July 2024.

Both vessels will earn an index-linked rate set at a “significant premium” over the Baltic Capesize Index. The deal comes with options attached for additional 11 to 13 months and includes a scrubber or LNG profit-sharing scheme as well as certain rights to convert the time charters to fixed rates.

“The premium agreed on these charter agreements is, to our knowledge, the highest achieved so far, even compared to our own previous agreements,” said Herman Billung, CEO of Himalaya Shipping.

Himalaya Shipping has four vessels in operation and eight newcastlemax under construction at New Times Shipyard, expected to deliver by July 2024. Nine ships have already been chartered out.
