HMM takes Oldendorff newcastlemax

South Korea’s HMM has been tipped as the buyer of Oldendorff Carriers’ newcastlemax.

Maerks Broker has identified the shipowner, in the middle of takeover talks, behind a deal for the 2016-built Henriette Oldendorff.

Multiple brokers reported earlier this month, the German owner had committed the scrubber-fitted ship built at Jiangsu New Yangzijiang in China to undisclosed South Korean interests for $46.5m.

HMM, mostly known for its containerships, which make up over 65% of its fleet, owns a pair of capes and ultramaxes each. The company is currently for sale, with at least four potential buyers lined up to snap up the country’s flagship line.

Secondhand deals for large bulkers picked up in July to their highest level in four months, with around 15 capes and newcastlemaxes changing hands since the end of June.
