Hyundai Heavy tipped to have won Yang Ming boxship series

Yang Ming is being tipped by Alphaliner as putting pen to paper for a series of 15,000 teu ships in South Korea.

The Taiwanese liner stands out among the top 10 carriers as the only one with no ships on order, but has recently sought expressions of interest to construct five 15,000 teu LNG dual-fuelled ships, with Alphaliner suggesting in its latest weekly report that Hyundai Heavy Industries will win the contract.

The ships, costing around $185m each, will deliver in 2025 and 2026.

Yang Ming is the world’s ninth largest container carrier with a fleet just above 700,000 slots, according to Alphaliner data.
