James Fisher signs for LNG-fuelled tanker newbuilds

UK-based James Fisher has contracted up to four LNG dual-fuelled product and chemical tankers in China.

The company has commissioned China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou to build two firm 6,000 dwt units costing $28m each for delivery in 2025.

The deal includes options for two additional vessels, according to brokers.

James Fisher Everard, acquired by the James Fisher Group in 2007, operates a fleet of 17 product tankers ranging from 3,000 to 35,000 dwt along the European coastline and in the Caribbean islands.

In 2021, the company announced plans to add two LNG dual-fuel IMO II tankers from China Merchant Jinling Shipyard. The 6,100 dwt Sir John Fisher joined the fleet in late 2022 and its sister vessel, Lady Maria Fisher, followed shortly after in early 2023.
