Major Yemen ports closed, Total LNG plant ‘operating normally’

London: Yemen closed all its major sea ports today but Total reports its Yemen LNG plant in the country is “operating normally”.

The ports’ closure comes as Saudi-led military strikes advance on Houthi militia forces in Yemen, Reuters reports.

The ports of Aden (pictured), Al Mukalla, Al Mokha and Al Hudaydah are among the facilities affected.

Houthi forces looked close to capturing the southern port of Aden on Wednesday, having also seized an air base that day.

Total’s 6.7m tpa Yemen LNG plant is located at Balhaf, around 400 km along the coast from Aden.

Total is Yemen’s biggest foreign investor, exporting LNG from its plant in the country mainly to Asia and Europe.
