Maran Tankers orders two more suezmaxes

Athens: Angelicoussis-led Maran Tankers Management has ordered two further suezmax tankers from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

The 156,000-dwt vessels will be delivered by early 2017.

No price for the deal was disclosed, but data from VesselsValue.com estimates the newbuilding contracts to be worth around $62.2m each.

The order comes just over a month after Maran ordered two VLCCs from the shipyard, which are also scheduled to arrive in 2017.

Excluding the newbuildings announced today, Maran has 10 tankers on order at Daewoo, six of which are VLCCs and four suezmaxes.

Almost all the new vessels are scheduled to arrive in 2017, with two VLCCs slated to hit the water next year.
