Marinakis sets up offshore vessels unit

Evangelos Marinakis has set his sights on the booming offshore sector.

The Greek shipowner and founder and chairman of Capital Maritime group, has launched Capital Offshore after picking up seven platform supply vessels for about $106m.

Capital Offshore is taking over the vessels from now soon to be shipless Norwegian OSV outfit Standard Supply.

The Oslo-listed company, majority owned by Øystein Stray Spetalen’s investment vehicle SD Standard ETC, first sold Standard Viking, Standard Supplier and Standard Defender to Marinakis in November.

This was followed by another en bloc sale of four mid-sized PSVs owned by Northern Supply, in which Standard Supply held a 51% stake.

The launch of Capital Offshore follows multiple industry reports linking Marinakis to offshore sector entry where owners compete for scarce tonnage.
