Danish bunker supplier Monjasa has bolstered its operations across West Africa and the Arabian Gulf with a double tanker acquisition.
The 2009-built Monjasa Thunder, formerly Solando, has been picked up for $18.5m from Donsotank Rederi, according to VesselsValue data. The 19,991 dwt vessel is currently inbound to Lomé, Togo, following a renewal survey, name change and subsequent hull blasting and painting. The vessel recently completed its first cargo operation in Rotterdam and is larger than Monjasa’s existing West Africa tankers, which usually range between 8,000 and 13,000 dwt.
The company has also added the 2018-built Monjasa Shipper, ex-Pearl Mercury, from Singapore’s Consort Bunkers for an undisclosed sum. The 7,991 dwt unit, which VesselsValue estimates to be worth $13.85m, will support Monjasa’s operations in Dubai, including biofuel activities.
Both tankers will start operations this month and are expected to further contribute to Monjasa’s maritime logistics and fleet, which today counts 30 tankers and barges deployed worldwide. Overall, Monjasa’s Middle East and Africa bunkers account for 27% of its total volume of 6.4m tonnes.
