NEO Energy contracts Apollo for UK North Sea FPSO project

UK-based engineering firm Apollo has won a significant contract from NEO Energy for a front-end engineering design (FEED) study of a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel destined for the Buchan oil project in the UK North Sea.

Aberdeen-based NEO Energy is embarking on an ambitious project to repurpose and redeploy an existing FPSO vessel where the start-up is expected in 2026.

Dana Petroleum and NEO Energy recently agreed to end production from the Western Isles fields which produce through the same FPSO. Subject to regulatory and other approvals, the vessel will then be acquired by NEO Energy for redeployment to the Greater Buchan Area.

Apollo’s FEED study will cover asset repairs and modifications for the FPSO, as well as late-life extension procedures, from a process and marine perspective. In addition, there is a requirement for complex electrical infrastructure to be integrated into the vessel, ensuring the FPSO is ‘electrification ready’ and can accept power from renewable sources.

Richard Bell, managing director of Apollo, said: “The contract underpins the competency and quality of the engineering team at Apollo. This is a unique and exciting project, with the aim of repurposing and redeploying an existing asset with the latest technology and innovative infrastructure.”
