Neptune Lines orders LNG dual-fuel car carriers at Fujian Mawei

Greek vehicle carrier owner and operator Neptune Lines is expanding its fleet with an order for a pair of LNG dual-fuel 4,200 ceu vessels in China.

The Craig Jasienski-led firm has commissioned Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in Fuzhou to build and deliver the duo in 2026.

The vessels, under the name Genesis Project, have been designed by Neptune Lines and Deltamarin. In addition to being able to utilise LNG or VLSFO as fuel, the units will sport several features to minimise environmental footprint, including an energy storage system, high-voltage shore power, and readiness for a solar power system.

The DNV-classed newbuilds are the first two of a new series that reflects Neptune’s strategy to supplement its fleet over the next decade, increase relevant cargo capacity by 36% from current core fleet vessels, and reduce emissions to remain well ahead of global targets, the company said.

Established in 1975, Neptune Lines is run by the president of the Union of Greek Shipowners (UGS), Melina Travlos, and has a fleet of 21 vehicle carriers ranging from 1,500 to 6,500 ceu.
