New Vizag-Jebel Ali, Tuticorin-Colombo box services launched

Mumbai: A new box feeder service, connecting Visakhapatnam on India’s eastern coast with Jebel Ali in the UAE, has been launched by coastal container shipping line Shreyas Shipping & Logistics, part of the Dubai-based Transworld group.

The service, which has commenced with two vessels initially on a fortnightly basis, will operate on a Jebel Ali – Mundra – Kattupalli – Vizag – Tuticorin – Cochin – Jebel Ali rotation.

Exim cargo for Arabian Gulf countries, which was being transhipped at Colombo, will henceforth be shipped out directly from Visakhapatnam.
Another container feeder service has been launched on February 1, between Tuticorin and Colombo from the Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal. The company has been operating Berth no. 8, with a capacity of 600,000 teu, since May 2014.

The BOX Consortium (comprising BTL, OEL and X-Press Feeders) has started a third string call to the terminal, with twice-weekly operation to Colombo.

With the new service, and the existing two Simatech-run services, the terminal has four services a week to the Sri Lankan regional transhipment hub.
