North Korean cargo vessel detained in Yantai

North Korean general cargo vessel Nam Pho 9 was detained at Laizhou Port in Yantai yesterday for safety reasons.

The local maritime safety department found several safety defects onboard the ship during a routine safety check, including compass magnetic deviation.

The department decided the ship conditions were not suitable for further navigation and decided to detain the ship.

The vessel is owned and managed by Korea Namsan SHPG Corporation.

The vessel is working to fix the safety problems before being assessed again by the local maritime safety department.
