Novatek’s Baltic terminal attacked by long-range drones from Ukraine

Ukrainian forces conducted a drone attack on Russia’s largest Baltic port over the weekend.

The operation, which used two long-range drones, resulted in a massive fire at Novatek’s gas terminal with all staff evacuated.

Four tankers were moored at the port at the time of the attack. They quickly left the port within an hour of the explosions. No ships were damaged in the attack.

Novatek said it had been forced to suspend a number of operations at its terminal on the Gulf of Finland. The giant Ust-Luga complex is Russia’s second largest port.

According to UK maritime security consultants Ambrey this was the second Ukrainian drone attack on a Russian Baltic Sea port within four days. On January 18, the port of St Petersburg was struck by unmanned aerial vehicle debris.

The Baltic attacks follow a successful similar campaign Ukraine has waged in the Black Sea.
