Odfjell strengthening fleet with charter and pool deals for six Japanese newbuilds

Norwegian chemical tanker owner and operator Odfjell is boosting its fleet through charter and pool agreements for six newbuild vessels.

The move will lift the Oslo-listed company’s fleet of 25,000 dwt to 40,000 dwt stainless steel ships to 12 when they deliver between 2024 and 2027.

The latest series will be built at multiple shipyards in Japan and join the fleet between the first half of 2026 and the first half of 2027.

Odfjell said the arrangements have been entered into at attractive levels and that it has purchase options on the vessels set to join on charter.

“The collaboration between the shipbuilders, suppliers and our team has resulted in tailored vessels that are sustainable, efficient and cost-effective,” remarked Harald Fotland, chief executive of Odfjell.

Two of the vessels are 40,000 dwt stainless steel super segregator chemical tankers with 28 tanks, while the additional four are 25 to 26,000 dwt units sporting 24 tanks.

Earlier this year, Odfjell revealed the signing for two other newbuildings for delivery in the first half of 2026.

The Bergen-headquartered company has a fleet of about 70 ships, four tank terminals and is part of a network of another 10 tank terminals, partly owned by related parties.
