Peter Döhle makes cape play

Germany’s Peter Döhle has added to its fleet of dry bulk carriers with the purchase of its largest vessel.

The Hamburg-based shipowner and operator is said to have picked up Mount Apo from Idan Ofer-controlled Eastern Pacific Shipping.

Multiple brokers are quoting a price tag of around $24.7m for the 2012 Jiangsu Rongsheng-built 175,200 dwt scrubber-fitted ship.

Döhle’s bulk division manages and operates about 30 bulkers with the largest ships in the mini cape segment up to 118,000 dwt.

Secondhand deals for large bulkers picked up last month to their highest level in four months. Most recently Capital Product Partners offloaded its 2010-built Cape Agamemnon for about $22.5m, while the one-year older Ariadne was sold by Greece’s Neda Maritime for $20.4m. Japan’s Shoei Kisen is also said to have sold its 2008-built newcastlemax HL Imabari for $21.4m to Chinese buyers.
