Petrobras to install 11 pre-salt FPSOs by 2027

Oil and gas giant Petrobras plans to deploy 11 new floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels in Brazil’s pre-salt layer by 2027.

Petrobras stated in its 2023-2027 strategic plan that it earmarked $64bn for investments in exploration and production activities, 67% of which will be allocated to investments in the pre-salt layer.

With the new projects added to the units already in operation, the company is set to produce a total of 3.1m barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2027, with 78% of total production coming from pre-salt.

Of the eleven new FPSOs planned by 2027, six will be allocated to the Búzios field – FPSO Almirante Tamandaré is planned for 2024, P-78 and P-79 will arrive in 2025, P-80 and P-82 in 2026, while the P-83 will arrive to the field in 2027.

In the second half of 2023, Petrobras will deploy the second FPSO in the Mero field, the Sepetiba, with a production capacity of up to 180,000 bpd. By 2025, the company will put two new units into operation in that field.

Apart from the previously mentioned fields in the Santos Basin, the Jubarte field in the Campos Basin will receive the FPSO Maria Quitéria in 2025, with a production capacity of up to 100,000 bpd. Another Campos Basin field, Albacora, which completed 35 years of operation last year, will receive a new FPSO in 2027.

“We are going to put 11 platforms into operation in the pre-salt layer over the next five years that will secure the sustainability of our production – which proves the importance and magnitude of our performance in the pre-salt layer,” said Petrobras’ exploration and production officer Joelson Mendes.
