Qube wins battle for Asciano

Australian port and rail company Asciano looks set to be taken over by a consortium led by compatriot logistics outfit Qube for A$8.9bn ($6.4bn). Qube’s bid has beaten another from Bemuda-based Brookfield Infrastructure Partners.

Listed Asciano’s port assets are held through subsidiary Patrick.

Starting out with the Informa Group in 2000 in Hong Kong, Sam Chambers became editor of Maritime Asia magazine as well as East Asia Editor for the world’s oldest newspaper, Lloyd’s List.
