Reach Subsea firms up cable route survey deal with SSEN Transmission

Norwegian offshore services player Reach Subsea has penned a survey contract with Scottish energy firm SSEN Transmission for the Spittal to Peterhead HVDC power cable as part of a significant upgrade of the electricity transmission network to facilitate the increase in renewable energy generation across the north of Scotland.

The Oslo-listed firm will collect data to be used for detailed engineering and environmental assessment of potential cable routes in the survey corridor.

The work is scheduled for execution in the fourth quarter of 2023, with a duration of approximately 75 vessel days, utilising the 2009-built Viking Reach and its permanently mobilized Surveyor Interceptor ROV (remotely operated vehicle).

“We have ramped up our capacity significantly over the last couple of years to serve a rapidly growing market with a broadened service offering. Our international presence is expanding fast with Aberdeen as a core location, and we are extremely pleased to be welcoming SSEN Transmission as a new significant client. The contract win is a strong endorsement of Reach Subsea’s attractivity for large clients and capabilities in solving complex tasks within the HVDC Transmission energy segment,” Jostein Alendal, CEO of Reach Subsea.
