Royal Arctic Line CEO steps down after eight years

The chief executive officer of Greenland’s Royal Arctic Line, Verner Hammeken, has stepped down from the role after an eight-year stint.

During Hammeken’s time as CEO, Royal Arctic Line conducted a significant transformation entailing a renewal of the fleet, the start-up of a new port in Nuuk, a partnership with Eimskip, and concentrating Danish activities in Aarhus.

“New management skills are now needed to get the day-to-day operations thoroughly rooted in all levels of the organisation, and the board has therefore entered into an agreement with Verner that he will resign as CEO,” the company explained.

The board of Royal Arctic Line has initiated a process to find a new chief executive of Royal Arctic Line. Until a new CEO is found, the Greenland-based firm’s chief commercial officer, Niels Clemensen, will be appointed as an interim CEO. The company added that Hammeken would be available to the company during a transition period.

“The board thanks Verner Hammeken for the significant effort and transformation during the eight years that he has been at the helm of Royal Arctic Line,” the shipping firm said.
