RWE secures final permit for Welsh offshore wind farm

RWE is pressing ahead with its Welsh Awel y Môr offshore wind farm project.

The German utility has secured a marine licence from Natural Resources Wales, completing its permitting for the 1.1 GW wind farm.

The project will be located alongside the operational 576 MW Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm and is planned to be operational before 2030 with a maximum of 50 turbines at a maximum height of 332 meters.

RWE is developing Awel y Môr, in a joint venture with partners Stadtwerke München and Siemens Financial Services which hold 30 and 10% stakes, respectively.

Apart from Gwynt y Môr, RWE already operates the North Hoyle and Rhyl Flats offshore wind farms in northern Wales.
