Safe Bulkers signs for another kamsarmax newbuild

Monaco-headquartered Greek shipowner Safe Bulkers has sealed a deal for another kamsarmax newbuild which will deliver from an unnamed Japanese yard in the first half of 2026.

The 82,000 dwt ship, a sister vessel to several Safe Bulkers newbuilds, has been designed to meet the Phase 3 requirements of Energy Efficiency Design Index and also comply with the NOx-Tier III regulations.

Including this agreement, the company has eight newbuild vessels for delivery between 2024 and 2027, two of which are methanol dual-fuel booked in October.

Commenting on the deal, Loukas Barmparis, president of Safe Bulkers, said: “As part of our renewal strategy we have recently agreed to sell two of our vessels. This newbuild with a relatively prompt delivery is consistent with our ESG strategy and reflects our ambition to be in the forefront of environmental developments.”

The New York-listed Safe Bulkers sports a fleet of 46 vessels, consisting of 11 panamaxes, nine kamsarmaxes, 18 post-panamaxes and eight capes.
