Semco and A.P. Moller Holding unit secure work on Ørsted’s wind farms off Germany

Denmark-based contractor Semco Maritime and fellow service provider KK Wind Solutions, part of A.P. Moller Holding, have secured a contract from renewable energy group Ørsted to work on its
German offshore wind farms.

The contract with an undisclosed value covers high voltage services at Borkum Riffgrund 1 & 2 and Gode Wind 1 & 2.

The Borkum Riffgrund 1 is situated approximately 34 km from shore in the Eastern North Sea, off the coast of Germany. The wind farm is fully operational and has 78 turbines, for a total capacity of 312 MW. The Borkum Riffgrund 2 has 56 turbines with a total capacity of 450 MW. Ørsted operates the sites with 50% ownership.

Gode Wind 1 has a capacity of 330 MW, while Gode Wind 2 has a capacity of 252 MW. The wind farms are located some 45 km off the German coast in the North Sea, with Ørsted as operator also holding a 50% stake.

The two partners previously worked together in 2021, when joint field service technicians were deployed to assist on a project headed by KK Wind Solution for converter retrofits on over 50 nacelles.

“With our joint extensive experience in offshore service operations, we are confident that we can offer top-notch service for the wind farms,” said Kim Wichmann-Hansen, chief service officer at KK Wind Solutions.
